Young John Bosco was born on 16 August 1815 in the small village townland of Castelnuovo d’Asti, in Piedmont, northen Italy.
While still a child, his father’s death made him feel the sorrow of so many orphans for whom he would become a loving father. He found, however, in his mother Margherita an example of Christian life which made a deep impression on his soul. >> continue >>
There are 23 groups that are officially recognized as members of the Salesian Family. These groups live in mutual unity, share the same spirit, and with many different vocations, they continue within the Church that spiritual-educative Church, which was bestowed upon Saint John Bosco Bosco through the Holy Spirit.
The so called “Leaders” (Animators) are part of our family. Their age - form 15 upwards. They dedicate themselves to their peers, and they strive to be closer to God, in attempting to emulate the 14-15 year-old Saint Dominic Savio, who tried to draw his friends closer to God. The Leaders are a lively, happy and generous component of our Family and they really do try, whenever need be, to help and assist our Confreres and our Salesian Sisters in all their pastoral initiatives for the good of youth. >> continue >>
